M.Sc. Physics

M.Sc. Physics

We started 2 year M.Sc. Physics program in July 2014, with 7 students selected through JAM.
We have developed a modern curriculum which incorporates a significant research component along with developing the foundations of theoretical, computational and experimental Physics. In order to promote interdisciplinary courses and research, we have a flexible credit structure.

The focus of the 2 year M.Sc. program is to develop a deep understanding in core areas of Theoretical and Experimental physics, as well as to take advantage of the flexibility of our modern curriculum to introduce a wide range of advanced topics to the students. The flexibility allows students to choose advanced electives and chalk out a path towards a specialization of their choice. The 2 year program is unique in devoting a significant component of the minimum credit requirement towards developing research skills. Our program is geared towards creating outstanding students with a solid training in analytical, experimental and computational methods. The complete list of courses for the program can be viewed here.

The institute has a memorandum of understanding with Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) which has a very strong research program and expertise in many areas of Physics and Astronomy. M.Sc. students enrolled at IITGN will have a unique opportunity to interact directly with faculty members at PRL and take advantage of their world class laboratory facilities. We also envisage PRL faculty teaching core and specialized topics in the M.Sc. program. The institute also hosts a number of visiting scholars from world-renowned Universities. Students will benefit from close academic interactions with such scholars.
